Are we really literate?

Here is why am I asking this.

Standing in a line for about 2 hours in a hospital and waiting for my turn, I was observing a lot of things there. When I reached the hospital, I saw that there were people who were honestly standing in line. The line was long but people were patient enough to wait for their turn. I wondered if people were behaving so nice in the absence of any controller. I went there and stood last in the line according to the time of arrival. Then I saw that there was an assistant of the doctor who was directing everyone to maintain the discipline otherwise the doctor will not check the patients.

When she went in(as she had to assist the doctor as well), a few people broke the line and created a second line. Some of them became so eager that they made a circle around the door. When new people started coming even they tried to get inside the room prior to those who had come earlier. After two hours the lady standing in front of me told me that her “pajama” is wet with blood and she can’t wait anymore. After talking to the assistant she was sent in but I made a request to the assistant to tell the people outside to stand in line according to their turn. She came out, instructed the patients, and went in. Some of them obeyed and some strong-headed people turned a deaf ear and did not move from there. As I was already there for a long time and I was watching the people coming there, I made a hand-folded request saying that everyone is in pain here. We should understand this thing. But it did not work. It went on like this.

We can say many things like hospital authorities should take care of these issues, we should have more staff in the hospital, etc. but here the simple question is that if we are not able to understand this simple concept of come first and get served first or the aspect of the pain of the other person in the same situation then what is the purpose of our education? Or does it really need a school education? It is common sense.

Here I am not for only this issue. There are many.

We keep the sounds of speakers high whether in the car or in our room just because we are feeling like that. We don’t care how others are getting affected.

We have the capability to stand on a bus for some time but we are not going to give the seat to the oldies because of who they are? Our video on our phone is more important.

We shall not put our clutter in the dustbin beside us on our own after visiting a shop because we have paid the money. Now it’s the shopkeeper’s job.

We shall not talk nicely to the people who are lower in position in our institution or somewhere else because it will hurt our imaginary reputation or ego.

The list can never end. But what is happening today? The persons who are doing their jobs honestly are considered nothing but nerds.

We know that these things must be changed. We also know how these things can be changed but what is that stopping us from being nice, honest, and gentle? It is not about just one person who can take initiative. We all have to come forward, together.

Thank you.
